Safety and Design Evalutaion

Safety is a large factor when contrasting design iterations and is ultimately a decisive variable in distinguishing a design’s success and capability. A product’s safety certification standard is measured in ul.  A ul of 5-6 is considered ideal for a manufactured prosthesis, where 5.50 ul is considered perfect. The approximate ul value associated with the connection tab’s design in the early iteration is only 1.21 ul: see below. The measure is attributed to inefficiency of yield radii and the PLA polymer used in the design. This design would experience critical failure.

The approximate ul value associated with the final (current) iteration is 5.52 ul; well within the ideal range of 5-6 ul for a manufactured prosthesis and only .36% deviation from a perfect rating. See below. This success is attributed to increased understanding of beams and the impact of 3D printing on high stress radii. The polymer used in this design is Nylon 6.
